Nichomachean Ethics by Aristotle5/25/2023 ![]() But good character demands knowledge, just like how Aristotle maintains happiness is related to wisdom/knowledge. Ethics should be concerned with the question of what constitutes good character, which is why we remember his ethics as a form of virtue ethics. ![]() As such, all aspects of human life and engagement aims at happiness. ![]() ![]() For Aristotle, who links eudemonia with personal character-which is formed through wisdom-understanding virtue ethics is more than just about being a moral or noble exemplar: It is deeply linked with his understanding of metaphysics and ontology and the end to which human existence is for (happiness through virtue).Īristotle, like most of the classical philosophers, believes happiness to be the end for which human life exists. In his famous Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues that ethics aims at the achievement of excellent because this excellence produces happiness to the human soul and this is fundamentally good because happiness is our end and the goal that all human actions attempt to embody through the action itself (however flawed or whether it achieves an enduring happiness). ![]()

Life of pi by yann martel characters5/25/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The characters on the whole are vividly drawn but ironed to a cartoonish flatness, and the tone between them is barking and shrill. He is good at conjuring alarm in whooping, adrenalised highs but seems tense and overwrought in the softer moments. He plays him as a 17-year-old survivor with PTSD in hospital, and as a slightly maniacal castaway on the boat. The visual effects seem to compete with, and ultimately drown out, the quieter, more philosophical elements of the drama, not leaving enough room for Pi’s existential rumination, which is key to his tale.Īs Pi, Hiran Abeysekera looks every inch the puckish man-boy and is incredibly light on his feet. Animal magic … a Life of Pi puppet designed by Caldwell and Nick Barnes. ![]()

You first by lea michele5/25/2023 ![]() And she must step into a show whose behind-the-scenes machinations and cast changes have been one of the juiciest running stories on Broadway this summer, prompting reams of coverage and gossip. ![]() Two years ago, she faced a wave of criticism from former colleagues who publicly accused her of bullying behavior and a prima donna attitude. Unlike the other actresses, Michele, 36, must contend with another shadow: her past self. Like the two other actresses who occupied the lead role this year (first Beanie Feldstein, then her standby Julie Benko), Michele must seek to avoid the shadow of Streisand’s star-making performance in the original musical and movie. But on Tuesday, a tale that feels to many like life imitating art culminates with Michele’s first performance as Brice, a 20th-century Jewish performer, at the August Wilson Theater. Murphy’s plan to transfer Michele’s Fanny Brice from the TV screen to stage never materialized. This is where it gets meta: Playing a glee club captain who graduates to become a striving theater actress, Michele’s character lands her dream role in the first Broadway revival of “Funny Girl” since its debut in 1964. ![]() |
